In Sickness and in Health

Brody popped the big question on Lindsey’s birthday, June 21, 2015. While the couple was lounging in their living room, Brody left the room for a minute. “When he got back he got down on one knee. He had a black box in his hand,” Lindsey said. “We looked at each other like Is this really happening?

This couple loves to joke, so Lindsey admits that she wasn’t positive that Brody was legitimately proposing. Brody asked the much-anticipated question, and her response was “Shut up. Really?” Brody confirmed that his proposal was serious, “with a huge grin on his face,” she said. “I gave him a huge smooch and said ‘Yes.’”

In September of 2015, this couple’s luck took a turn for the worse. Lindsey was hospitalized for four months. “I was in a coma for three weeks,” she said. Thankfully, her health turned around, but “I had to learn how to use my arms and legs again.”

“When I woke up from the coma, I noticed Brody was wearing a ring around his neck,” she said. “I knew it was my ring, but I didn’t remember how or when we had gotten engaged.” Lindsey could not wear her ring at first while she regained control of her limbs.

“I finally asked him if he could tell me how he proposed to me,” she said. “He did his best to jog my memory, asking if I knew what day.” Eventually, Lindsey remembered the day Brody asked her to marry him. “It slowly came back to me, but those memories are still blurry,” she said. “Hopefully, I will never forget that day again.”

“In the hospital, there were days that I doubted if I would walk again,” Lindsey said. “Even if I could, how far could I walk, or for how long? I knew I had to work my mind and body hard because we had already picked a wedding date.” With the help of Brody and her family, Lindsey regained control of her limbs.

Brody and Lindsey were married at her parent’s property in Gold Creek near Cranbrook, BC.

On July 16, 2016, Lindsey walked down the aisle to Brody with only the help from her parents. “I arrived in a horse and buddy, and I was surrounded by all of the people I love and care about,” she said. “I remember taking my first steps out of the carriage and thinking You did it Lindsey. You’re walking down the aisle on your wedding day.”

“My family and friends put so much effort in to making the day amazing,” Lindsey said. “It was absolutely perfect.” Brody and Lindsey were married at her parent’s property in Gold Creek.
